LAKE FOREST, Ill. - After weather and traffic conditions forced the game to begin approximately two hours late, the Forester women’s basketball team routed Illinois College 81-51 at home Tuesday (February 6) night. Lake Forest, the 19th-ranked team in the nation according to this week’s D3hoops.com poll, is now 18-2 overall and 12-1 in Midwest Conference play with a school record-tying 12-game winning streak. The Lady Blues fell to 7-14 overall and 5-9 in league play.

Senior guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) led the home team with 11 points – all in the first half. She shot 5-for-6 from the field in the contest. Junior guard Eileen Walsh (Hickory Hills, Ill./Amos Alonzo Stagg) was next on the squad with nine points as 15 of the 16 Foresters to see action in the game scored and none of them played more than 16 minutes. Sophomore center Kathleen Dewan (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) led the team with four rebounds, senior guard Nicole Rivera (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) and freshman guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) each had three assists, and junior center Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) recorded four steals.

The Foresters shot 51.7 percent from the field, a stellar 7-for-11 from three-point range, and 14-for-17 from the free throw line. Illinois College was 39.5 percent from the floor, 3-for-11 from beyond the arc, and 18-for-23 from the foul line. Lake Forest held a commanding 36-20 edge in rebounds and committed 22 turnovers while forcing 28 Lady Blue miscues.

The home team held a 13-11 advantage at the midway point of the first half before rattling off 13 consecutive points in just two-and-a-half minutes. A 17-3 Forester run later in the half extended the difference to 24 points and the half ended with Lake Forest ahead 43-22.

The Foresters’ lead in the second half was never less than 21 and grew to as many as 36.

Lake Forest, tied for first in the MWC standings with three league games remaining, will travel to Grinnell College Saturday (February 10) afternoon for a 1:00 contest against the Pioneers.
