Four Score in Double Figures in Victory over Knox
Lucas and Dewan record career-highs in points

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women’s basketball team recorded a convincing 77-48 victory at home over Knox College Tuesday (January 10) evening. Lake Forest raised its overall record on the year to 8-3 and evened its Midwest Conference mark at 2-2. The Prairie Fire fell to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Junior guard Lizzy Bauer (Madison, WI/Madison West) led the home team with 16 points and seven assists. Junior forward Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) had 15 points and six rebounds and sophomore guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hersey) scored a career-high 14 and added four steals. Freshman center Kathleen Dewan (Oak Forest, IL/Oak Forest) reached double figures for the first time in her career with 10 points and chipped in five rebounds. Sophomore center Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) led all players with 10 rebounds.

The Foresters shot 38.8% from the field 34.8% (8-23) from three-point range, and 81% (17-21) from the free throw line. Knox was held to 35.3% shooting, both overall and from beyond the arc (8-23). The Prairie Fire also made six of nine free throws. Lake Forest held a commanding 47-30 edge in rebounds and committed just 16 turnovers while forcing 24 Knox miscues.

The home team scored the game’s first 10 points but the Prairie Fire trimmed the lead to just two (13-11) with 11:13 left in the first half. The difference was three (21-18) before the Foresters rattled off 11 points in a row. Lake Forest’s lead at halftime was 35-22.

The visitors would get no closer in the second half. A 9-2 Forester run made the score 50-30 with 11 minutes to play and an 11-2 run extended the lead to 25 points (65-40) with four-and-a-half minutes left.

Lake Forest will continue conference play on the road this weekend (January 13-14). The Foresters will play at Ripon College Friday evening at 5:30 and at Lawrence University Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Thanks to an agreement between the Midwest Conference and Penn Atlantic, video of Friday’s game will be shown live on the internet.
