Foresters’ Strong Second Halves Lead to Victories over Ripon, St. Norbert
Team defeats half of last year’s MWC Tournament over the weekend

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team won a pair of Midwest Conference home games over the weekend (January 12-13). The Foresters defeated Ripon College 75-46 Friday evening and St. Norbert College 70-68 the following afternoon to raise their overall recvord on the year to 10-2 and their league mark to 5-1. Ripon fell to 6-6 overall and 2-3 in the MWC. St. Norbert is now 8-5 overall and 5-2 in conference games.

Senior guard/forward Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) tied for game-high honors on Friday with 14 points. She shot 5-for-7 from the floor, made both of her three-point field goal attempts, and added six rebounds. Senior guard Nicole Rivera (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) was the only other Forester in double figures with 10 points and she chipped in with three assists and a pair of steals. Junior forward Shaina Sullivan (Winfield, Ill./West Chicago) was next on the squad with eight points on 4-for-5 shooting from the field. Freshman guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and junior center Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) each pulled down a game-high eight rebounds as Lake Forest out-rebounded the Red Hawks 50-30.

The home team shot 49.1 percent from the floor, 6-for-13 from three-point range, and 13-for-25 from the free throw line. Ripon made just 34.4 percent of its field goal attempts and shot 2-for-13 from beyond the arc and 2-for-8 from the foul line. The Foresters committed 23 of the game’s 44 turnovers.

Lake Forest led by as many as nine points in the first half and 37-30 at intermission. The Foresters posted runs of 18-2 and 18-4 as they pulled away in the second half.

Baich led Lake Forest on Saturday with 15 points and 10 rebounds. It was her third double-double of the season and eighth of her career. Rivera, who made her first start of the year, scored 12 points and Durante had 11. Seven different Foresters had two assists and Baich and Durante recorded three steals apiece.

Lake Forest was out-shot 51.1 percent to 39.4 percent from the field. The Foresters were 3-for-11 from three-point range and 15-for-22 from the foul line. The Green Knights made just one three-pointer in five tries and shot 19-for-27 from the line. The home team posted a commanding 46-27 edge in rebounds.

St. Norbert led for most of the opening period and 37-30 at halftime. The Foresters tied the game twice early in the second half and finally pulled ahead with eight-and-a-half minutes left. The home team’s lead remained between one and four points until a pair of Green Knight free throws tied the game with 12 seconds to play. Rivera then drove to the basket for the game-winning layup in the closing seconds.

The Foresters will host Milwaukee School of Engineering Tuesday (January 16) night at 7:00.
