LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team defeated Beloit College 74-60 at home Friday evening (January 19). The Foresters evened their overall record on the season at 6-6 and raised their Midwest Conference mark to 3-2. The Buccaneers fell to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in league play.

Lake Forest had five players score in double figures for the third consecutive game. Junior guard Kate Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and junior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led the way on Friday with 13 points apiece. Nassin also pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season and added four steals. Grunauer chipped in with four assists and a pair of steals. Junior forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) was next on the team with 11 points while junior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) and senior forward Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) each finished with 10. Schmidt also had five rebounds, a game-high six assists and two steals. Rainey fell one rebound shy of a double-double.

The Foresters shot 42.6 percent from the field, 5-for-16 from three-point range, and 17-for-26 from the foul line. Beloit was held to just 32 percent shooting from the floor and the Buccaneers were 6-for-15 on three-pointers and 22-for-30 on free throws. The Foresters held a 42-35 edge in rebounding and committed 14 turnovers while forcing 18.

An 8-1 run early in the game gave the home team a lead it would never relinquish. Seven straight Lake Forest points later in the opening period extended the margin to 10 points and the Foresters led 37-10 at halftime.

The lead reached double figures again five-and-a-half minutes into the second half and remained there for the rest of the contest. Twice Lake Forest led by as many as 16.

Lake Forest will host Lawrence University tomorrow afternoon at 3:00. Live video webcasts of all league contests are available at www.midwestconference.tv.
