Lake Forest Gets Back on Track with Rout at Illinois College
Nicole Baich records first career double-double

JACKSONVILLE, IL - The Forester women’s basketball team rebounded from a pair of losses over the weekend with a convincing 70-44 victory at Illinois College Tuesday (January 17) night. Lake Forest is now 9-5 on the season with a 3-4 mark in Midwest Conference play. The Lady Blues fell to 7-6 overall and 1-5 in the league.

Sophomore center Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) recorded her first career double-double with a team-high 16 points and 13 rebounds. She also added five steals in the contest. Senior guard Devon Liebl (Brookfield, WI/Milwaukee Pius XI) and junior guard Lizzy Bauer (Madison, WI/Madison West) also reached double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively, and each chipped in with five rebounds and three steals. Bauer led the squad with four assists and junior guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hersey) tallied eight steals, one shy of the single-game school record.

Lake Forest shot 37% from the floor and 4-for-13 (30.8%) from three-point range. The Foresters recorded season-highs in free throws made (26) and attempted (35) and their 21 steals were just two shy of the single-game school record. Illinois College shot 34.1% from the field, 2-for-8 from beyond the arc, and 12-for-22 from the foul line. Lake Forest out-rebounded the home team 40-34 and committed 10 fewer turnovers (31-21).

The visitors scored the game’s first 10 points and the lead reached double figures for good on a Baich tip-in with 8:40 to play in the opening period. The Foresters’ largest lead of the first half was 19 (27-8) and they held a 34-19 advantage at intermission.

The Lady Blues trimmed the margin to 10 points (36-26) with 15:50 to play but Lake Forest scored the next eight points to put the game out of reach. The difference grew to as many as 30 points in the final few minutes of the contest.

The Foresters will travel to Grinnell College for another conference road game on Saturday (January 21). Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
