Big Weekend Begins With Win at St. Norbert
Three score in double figures

Shannon Clerkin led the team in scoring (15 pts.) for the first time since the season opener.
DE PERE, WI - The Forester women's basketball team extended its winning streak against Midwest Conference opponents to 14 games Friday (January 18th) with a 59-56 victory at St. Norbert College. Lake Forest raises its overall record to 12-1 and its MWC mark to 7-0.

Freshman Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) led the Foresters in scoring for the first time since the season opener. Her 15 points were the result of a 5-for-10 shooting night from the floor and 5-for-6 performance from the free throw line. Clerkin also added five rebounds in 22 minutes of play.

Senior guard Jenni Klusman (New Berlin, WI/New Berlin West) reached double figures in points for the fifth straight game. She shot 3-for-7 from three-point range en route to a 13-point game. Freshman guard Kandyce Green (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic) connected on all seven of her free throw attempts and scored 11 points. Klusman and Green each had a pair of steals as well.

The 59 points is the lowest scoring output of the season for the Foresters, who, at 39.6%, connected on less than 40% of their field goal attempts for just the second time this year. They made up for it at the free throw line, however, by connecting on all but two of their 15 attempts.

Each team led by as many as four points and there were three ties and five lead changes in the game's first 13 minutes. St. Norbert was ahead by five points (22-17) with less than three minutes to play in the first period before four Clerkin free throws cut the lead to one. The Green Knights, however, scored the final five points of the half and took the game's largest lead to that point (27-21) into halftime.

The home team extended the lead to 13 points by outscoring the Foresters 15-8 to open the second half. Lake Forest still trailed by a dozen (48-36) with less than nine minutes to play in the game before a three-pointer by Klusman, a traditional three-point play by Green, and a layup by Klusman cut the lead to four. Twice in the game's final three-and-a-half minutes, Green stepped to the free throw line with her team down by a single point. On each occasion, she converted both attempts. The second instance gave the visitors a 57-56 lead with 1:05 to play. Lake Forest's defense held up during the final minute and a couple more Forester free throws ended the scoring. Klusman, Clerkin and Green accounted for 33 of Lake Forest's 38 second-half points, including 27 straight over a 12-minute span that turned an 11-point deficit into a two-point lead.

The Foresters will make the short trip from DePere, Wisconsin to Appleton tomorrow (January 19th) where they will play Lawrence University at 2:00 PM.
