LAKE FOREST, IL - In a battle between the top two women's basketball teams in the Midwest Conference, Lake Forest College defeated St. Norbert College at home Friday (January 19th) night 78-68. With the victory, the Foresters remain undefeated in the league (7-0) and the loss drops St. Norbert into a third-place tie at 5-2.

The game featured the top two scorers in the MWC going head-to-head for much of the game. Senior forward Julie Schill of St. Norbert and senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) of Lake Forest entered the game averaging 21.5 and 20.5 points per game, respectively. Grubbs had the advantage Friday, though, with game-highs in both points (23) and assists (6). Schill scored 18 and has now scored one more point than Grubbs this season.

The two starting forwards for the Foresters notched the team's first double-doubles of the season. Sophomore Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) scored 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field and pulled down a career-high 12 rebounds. Senior Kim Magee (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) matched McCants and her own career-high in rebounds with 12 and added 14 points on 6-of-9 field goal shooting. Lake Forest out-rebounded St. Norbert 41-35.

St. Norbert opened up an early 8-point lead (16-8) in the game's first seven minutes before the Foresters rattled off 10 straight points to go ahead by two. The visitors responded with a 10-3 run to go up by five (26-21) with 4:14 to go in the first half. Lake Forest battled back again and took a 33-32 lead into intermission. The Foresters pulled away in the second half and twice led by as many as 16 points before St. Norbert closed to within seven at 71-64 with 2:19 to go. The Foresters made 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

The win extended Lake Forest's winning streak to 9 games and their winning streak against Midwest Conference opponents to 13, dating back to last season. They will host Lawrence University on Saturday (January 20th) at 3:00 PM. Lawrence is currently 3-10 on the season and 3-4 in the MWC.
