Lawrence Hands Foresters First MWC Loss of the Season
McCants records second double-double in last three games

Katie McCants had a team-high 10 points and 11 rebounds.
APPLETON, WI - Young and inexperienced, the Lake Forest College women's basketball team was bound to have a game or two this season where just about nothing would go right, and it finally happened Saturday (January 19th) in a 59-49 loss at Lawrence University. The Foresters' first Midwest Conference defeat of the season dropped their overall record to 12-2 and their league mark to 7-1.

Leading Lake Forest in scoring was junior forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha), who scored 11 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Kandyce Green (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic) also reached double figures in points with 10 and shot 3-for-5 from three-point range. Green also added five rebounds and led the team with three assists and as many steals.

The Foresters entered the game averaging nearly 15 steals and forcing more than 27 turnovers per game. On Saturday they managed just 5 thefts and Lawrence turned the ball over only 10 times while Lake Forest committed an uncharacteristic 27 miscues. The visitors held a 49-38 rebounding edge but were called for 11 more fouls than the Vikings and shot just 8-for-15 from the free throw line while the Vikings made 20 of 34 attempts from the charity stripe.

Lawrence never trailed and led by as many as eight points in the first half, which ended with the Foresters trailing 25-18. Lake Forest cut the lead to three on two occasions early in the second half but trailed 46-35 with 9:12 to play. After nearly two-and-a-half minutes of scoreless play, the Foresters scored nine straight points to get to within a single basket. The Vikings responded with eight straight points of their own to put the game away.

Lake Forest will be at home next weekend (January 25-26th) and will take on two of the top four teams in the conference. Friday evening's (5:30) game will be against Carroll College, who is still undefeated in MWC games, and Saturday afternoon's (2:00) contest will be against St. Norbert College, who is 5-3 in the league.
