GRINNELL, IA - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team recorded a 73-65 victory at Grinnell College Saturday (January 21) afternoon. The Foresters are now 10-5 overall this season and 4-4 in Midwest Conference play. Grinnell fell to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the league.

Junior guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hersey) led the visitors with a career-high 18 points and five assists. She alsoadded five rebounds and three steals. Junior forward Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) was next on the squad with 12 points and had eight rebounds. Sophomore center Nicole Baich (Westchester, IL/Nazareth Academy) recorded her second straight double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. Junior guard Lizzy Bauer (Madison, WI/Madison West) also reached double figures with 10 points and she chipped in with a career-high nine rebounds.

Both teams shot roughly 38% from the field in the game. The Foresters also made just two of 20 three-point attempts and knocked down 19 of 29 (65.5%) free throws. The Pioneers were 7-for-29 (24.1%) from beyond the arc and 16-for-22 (72.7%) from the foul line. Lake Forest committed one more turnover (18) than Grinnell (17) but out-rebounded the home team 55-31.

The Pioneers used an 11-2 run early in the contest to take a 13-6 lead. The margin reached as many as eight points (17-9) before an 18-2 run by the Foresters gave them the eight-point advantage (27-19) with 4:25 remaining in the opening period. Grinnell ended a 9-0 Lake Forest run with a basket at the end of the half and the score was 38-25 at intermission.

An 11-1 Pioneers run early in the second half cut the lead to five (43-38). The Foresters scored the next five points and led by 10 with 14 minutes to play. Grinnell chipped away at the deficit and got it down to just three points (62-59) with 2:55 left on the clock. The home team would get no closer, however, as Lake Forest shot 9-for-12 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory.

The Foresters will be back at home next weekend (January 27-28). Lake Forest will host Beloit College Friday evening at 5:30 and Ripon College Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
