LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women’s basketball team held off Midwest Conference foe Monmouth College Tuesday (January 23) evening for a 68-57 victory. Lake Forest is now 14-2 overall this season and 8-1 in league play. The team has won eight straight contests, including six in the last 12 days. Monmouth fell to 9-8 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Senior guard/forward Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) led a balanced Forester scoring attack with 11 points, leaving her just four shy of 1,000 points in her career. Freshman guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) was the only other player on the team in double figures with 10 points. Junior center Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) scored nine points and led the squad with eight rebounds. Senior guard Eileen Walsh (Hickory Hills, Ill./Amos Alonzo Stagg) came off the bench to lead the team with three steals and a career-high six assists.

Lake Forest shot 44.8% from the field, 5-for-15 from three-point range, and 11-for-25 from the free throw line. The Fighting Scots were 38.1 percent from the floor, missed all four of their shots from beyond the arc, and knocked down nine of 17 free throws. The Foresters held a 44-40 edge in rebounds and both teams committed 19 turnovers.

A 13-0 Forester run in the first half turned a 10-2 deficit into a five-point lead for the home team. Lake Forest extended the margin to as many as 11 points in the period and led 37-32 at halftime.

Monmouth kept the game close and was able to regain the lead (53-52) with 7:06 to play. The Foresters, however, scored the game’s next six points and outscored the Fighting Scots 15-5 the rest of the way.

Lake Forest’s next game will be at Knox College Saturday (January 27) afternoon at 3:00.
