Devon Liebl led the team in scoring on Saturday.
RIPON, WI - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped by a pair of Midwest Conference foes over the weekend (January 23-24). The Foresters fell at Beloit College 65-61 on Friday and at Ripon College 57-51 on Saturday. The team is now 11-5 overall and 7-2 in the conference.

At Beloit, junior forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) led Lake Forest with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and a pair of blocks. She shot 12-for-18 from the field and connected on two of three free throws. Senior guard Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) was next on the team in scoring with nine points and dished out three assists.

Both teams exchanged buckets for most of the first half until Beloit used a 13-0 run to build an 11-point advantage with 3:14 remaining in the period. The Foresters managed to cut the lead down to seven by intermission and to just one with 13:04 remaining in the game. The Buccaneers scored seven straight, however, and never relinquished their lead, although Lake Forest pulled to within two late in the game.

Beloit held the visitors to 34.4% shooting from the field and 16.7% shooting from the arc. The Buccaneers shot 46.8% from the field and connected on half of their 12 three-point attempts.

At Ripon, sophomore Devon Liebl (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Pius XI) scored a team-high 11 points off the bench and Clerkin added 10 points and as many boards for her third consecutive double-double. Liebl shot 4-for-6 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free throw line and added five rebounds.

The Foresters led 27-22 at halftime and scored the first basket of the second period. Ripon outscored the visitors 20-7 over the next eight-and-a-half minutes, however, to take a 42-36 lead with 10:48 to play. Lake Forest regained the lead and extended it to five points (51-46) with 3:25 remaining, but Ripon's pressure defense sparked an 11-0 game-ending run to seal the win for the Red Hawks.

Both squads finished with 32 rebounds and Lake Forest held a slight edge in turnovers, committing 18 while forcing 19. Ripon shot 58.8% from the field in the second half and 42.9% for the game while the Foresters were below 40% in each half and at 35.8% in the game.

Lake Forest will host St. Norbert College (8-7, 6-2 MWC) on Friday (January 30) at 7:30 p.m. and will seek revenge against Beloit College (4-10, 2-6) on Saturday (January 31), at 4:30 p.m.
