Grubbs scores career-high 39 points

Alison Grubbs scored a career-high 39 points.
WAUKESHA, WI - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team started out their most difficult road trip of the Midwest Conference season with an 82-61 victory at Carroll College. The win preserves the Foresters' perfect record in the MWC (9-0) and drops Carroll to 7-2 and tied for second place with St. Norbert College, where Lake Forest will play tomorrow (January 27th) at 2:00 PM.

The victory is the 11th straight for the Foresters, matching the school record accomplished three other times, all in a 44-game span between January of 1992 and December of 1993.

Lake Forest got a "career-game" from its best player as senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) scored a career-high 39 points, pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds and added 3 steals. The nation's 13th-leading scorer (entering the week) shot 10-for-12 from the field, 4-for-4 from behind the three-point arc and 15-for-18 from the free throw line. The 39 points and 15 made free throws are highs in the conference so far this season and the point total is tied for fifth in the country this year.

Sophomore forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) also hit double-figures with 12 points and was next on the list of ten Foresters who scored in the game. Senior guard Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) added 8 points to go with her 5 rebounds and game-high 4 steals. Freshman forward Tangara Cross (Garland, TX/Naaman Forest) also scored 8 points, a new career-high, and pulled down 7 rebounds.

The Foresters out-shot Carroll 49.0% to 37.1% and made 28 of 35 free throw attempts compared to the 13-for-25 performance from the home team at the line. Lake Forest also held the edge in rebounds, 42-35.

After each team made a basket to start the game, the Foresters scored the next 14 points (10 by Grubbs) to open up a 16-2 lead. Carroll cut the difference to six at 21-15 before Lake Forest extended the lead to 15 points three separate times before going into the locker room at halftime ahead 41-28. Carroll again cut into the lead, getting as close as nine points (45-36) before the Foresters put the game away, leading by as many as 24 points in the second half.

Lake Forest has little time to celebrate before taking on St. Norbert (2:00 PM tomorrow). The Green Knights tied Carroll for second place in the MWC with a 79-49 victory at home against Monmouth College Friday (January 26th).
