Andrea Durante Scores 1,000th Career Point in Victory at Knox
Foresters’ win streak reaches nine games

GALESBURG, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team prevailed 85-54 at Knox College Saturday (January 27) afternoon. The Foresters extended their winning streak to nine games and are now 15-2 overall and 9-1 in Midwest Conference play this season. Knox fell to 2-14 overall and 0-10 in league games.

With eight points in the game, Forester senior guard/forward Andrea Durante (Bloomingdale, Ill./Lake Park) surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her collegiate career. She scored 493 points in two years at the University of Missouri-Rolla, led Lake Forest with 293 last season, and is atop the team’s scoring list again this year.

Freshman forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) led the Foresters on Saturday with 13 points. She shot 4-for-5 from the field and added five rebounds, two assists, and a steal in the contest. Senior guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) was also 4-for-5 from the field, knocked down both of her three-point attempts, and finished with 10 points. Junior center Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) scored 10 points as well on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. Sophomore center Kathleen Dewan (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) added nine points and led the visitors with seven rebounds. Senior point guard Nicole Rivera (Chicago, Ill./Fenwick) recorded a team-high four steals.

With a .516 field goal percentage in the game, Lake Forest made at least half of their shots from the field for the third time this season. The Foresters also connected on five of nine three-pointers and 16 of 24 free throws. Knox shot just 32.2 percent from the field, 3-for-17 from beyond the arc, and 13-for-16 from the foul line. Lake Forest held a commanding 51-24 edge in rebounds but committed 29 of the game’s 55 turnovers.

The Foresters scored the game’s first nine points, surrendered five straight, and then used an 11-0 run to take a 20-5 lead early in the contest. The visitors led by as many as 20 in the opening period and 47-28 at halftime. The lead did not dip below 16 points during the second half and remained in the 20’s for the vast majority of the period.

Lake Forest will play a pair of Midwest Conference home games next weekend (February 2-3). The Foresters will host Beloit College at 5:30 Friday evening and Lawrence University at 2:00 Saturday afternoon.
