MONMOUTH, IL - The Forester women's basketball team was desperately in need of a win Tuesday (January 29th) and got it with an 88-52 victory at Monmouth College. Lake Forest raised its overall record to 13-4 and its Midwest Conference mark to 8-3. The win also ended the team's three-game losing streak, its first since December of 1987. Head Coach Jackie Slaats, currently in her 16th year at the helm of the Foresters, has never lost four games in a row.

Leading Lake Forest in scoring were the team's leading scorers for the season, junior forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) and freshman guard Kandyce Green (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic), with 15 points each. McCants shot 7-of-10 from the floor and added six rebounds while Green was 6-of-8, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. McCants leads the Foresters with 10.5 points per game this season while Green is second at 10.1.

Also scoring in double figures for the Foresters were freshman forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld), freshman guard Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) and sophomore guard Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) with 14, 12 and 10 points, respectively. Clerkin shot 7-of-10 from the field and led the team with seven rebounds. Freeman and Wagner combined to shoot 7-of-11 from the floor, including 5-of-8 from beyond the three-point arc, and dish out nine assists. Freeman's 12 points represent a new career-high.

Lake Forest's field goal percentage for the contest was 52.9%, its second-most accurate game of the season. The Foresters also shot 42.9% from three-point range. Monmouth was held to just 30.0% from the floor and 33.3% from beyond the arc. Lake Forest out-rebounded the home team 40-34 and committed just 11 turnovers while forcing the Fighting Scots into twice that many.

The Foresters never trailed in the game, which began with a 16-2 Forester run. The visitors extended their advantage to as many as 28 points (46-18) in the first half, which ended with them ahead, 48-23.

The Scots cut the margin to 18 points (56-38) early in the second period but another 16-2 run by the Foresters took the lead up to 32.

Lake Forest has a pair of MWC games scheduled for this weekend. On Friday (February 1st), the Foresters will travel to Ripon College (10-7, 6-4 MWC) and on Saturday (February 2nd), they will host Beloit College (4-14, 3-8).
