Foresters Rout Illinois College at Home

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team hosted and defeated Illinois College 84-45 Tuesday evening (January 29). The Foresters are now 13-3 overall and 7-2 in MWC play. The Lady Blues fell to 8-8 overall and 4-5 in the league.

Sophomore forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) led the home team with 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. She shot 6-for-11 from the field and added a pair of steals in the contest. Sophomore center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) and senior center Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) also reached double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Nassin also chipped in with seven rebounds and four steals while Baich had five boards and three assists.

Fourteen of the 16 Foresters who played in the game had at least two points and the team shot 53.8 percent from the field, 5-for-9 from three-point range, and 9-for-14 from the free throw line. Illinois College was 37.5 percent from the floor, 0-for-10 from beyond the arc, and 9-for-20 from the foul line. Lake Forest out-rebounded the Lady Blues 48-21 and committed 32 turnovers while forcing 33.

Illinois College scored on a layup less than 10 seconds into the contest and was held without another point for nearly 12 minutes of game time while the Foresters scored 24 in a row. An 8-0 Lady Blue run moments later cut the lead to 14 points with 5:14 remaining in the home team responded with an 18-4 run to put the game out of reach. Lake Forest led 44-18 at halftime.

The margin reached 30 points early in the second half and topped out at 40 with seven minutes left.

The Foresters will play their fourth consecutive home game Saturday afternoon (February 2) against Knox College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00.
