Foresters Split Pair of MWC Home Games
Team falls to St. Norbert, defeats Beloit

Kandyce Green scored 32 points on the weekend.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team split a pair of Midwest Conference games over the weekend. The Foresters fell 64-55 to St. Norbert College on Friday (January 30), but bounced back to record a 78-57 win over Beloit College on Saturday (January 31). Lake Forest is now 12-6 overall and 8-3 in the league.

Against St. Norbert, junior guard Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) poured in a game-high 19 points and classmate Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) added a dozen. Green finished the night shooting 7-for-8 from the free throw line and draining two of her four three-point field goal attempts. All of Freeman’s points came from behind the arc, and the guard has made a team-best 39 three-pointers this year.

Despite shooting only 25% from the field in the first half, the Foresters trailed by just four (26-22) at the intermission. But the Green Knights outscored the home team 18-6 to open the second half and led 44-26 with 12:32 remaining. Green scored eight points during a 14-2 Lake Forest run later in the period that cut the lead to 48-46, but the visitors used a 10-0 run to secure the win.

On Saturday, junior forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) scored a team-high 15 points, Green added 13, and senior guard Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) pitched in 11 in the Foresters’ win over Beloit College. The three shot a combined 12-for-12 from the charity stripe, with Clerkin knocking down five, Wagner connecting on four, and Green hitting three.

After getting off to a slow start, Lake Forest picked up the intensity late in the first half and held a 35-31 lead at the break. The home team’s second half featured 16 unanswered points in a span of five minutes to build an insurmountable 69-46 lead with 4:47 left to play.

The Foresters out-rebounded the Buccaneers 42-36 and forced the opponents into 25 turnovers. Lake Forest connected on 23 of 28 free throw attempts (82.1%) compared to Beloit’s 12-of-22 (54.5%) free throw shooting performance.

Lake Forest will travel to Wisconsin for a pair of conference games next weekend (February 6-7). On Friday the Foresters will battle Lawrence University (9-7, 5-5 MWC) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday’s 2:00 p.m. contest will be at Carroll College (8-9, 5-5).
