GALESBURG, IL - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team picked up where it left off before the holiday break with a 78-61 victory at Knox College on Saturday (January 5th). The Foresters' fifth win in a row gives them 12 straight victories over Knox and they have now won 26 of their last 27 games against Midwest Conference opponents. Their 9-1 overall record includes a perfect 4-0 mark in the league.

Leading the team in scoring for the fourth time this season was junior forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha), with 15 points. McCants and freshman forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) each had a game-high 8 rebounds, helping Lake Forest to a 31-28 edge in that category.

Sophomore forward Tangara Cross (Garland, TX/Naaman Forest) was next on the Foresters with 11 points. Senior guard Jenni Klusman (New Berlin, WI/New Berlin West) and freshman guard Kandyce Green (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic) scored 10 points apiece and combined with Cross to record 8 of the team's 14 steals.

Lake Forest shot 21-of-34 (61.8%) from the floor and outscored Knox 50-29 in the first half. The Foresters finished the game at 50.8%, the fourth time this season they have made at least half of their field goal attempts.

After giving up the game's first basket, the Foresters rattled off 14 straight to open up a 12-point lead. Knox closed the gap to eight with 11 minutes left in the first period before runs of 9-0 and 7-0 by the visitors extended the lead to 21 by halftime.

In the second half, the margin grew to as many as 25 points before a 10-0 run by the Prairie Fire made the score 58-43 with just over 11 minutes to play in the game. After cutting the lead to 14 points with 6:10 to go, Knox would get no closer.

Lake Forest continues Midwest Conference play next weekend (January 11-12th). On Friday, they will travel to Beloit College (6:00 pm) and on Saturday they will host Ripon College (3:00 pm).
