Foresters Make it Four-in-a-Row With Win at Knox

Alison Grubbs entered this week ranked 12th in the country with 22.4 ppg.
GALESBURG, IL - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team won its first game of the calendar year on Saturday (January 6th) at Knox College by a score of 68-51. The victory extends the 2000-01 Foresters' win streak to four and their win streak against Midwest Conference opponents to eight, dating back to last season.

Senior guard Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) was the game's leading scorer with 24 points. The Foresters have won five of the six games this season in which Grubbs has led all scoreres. Alison entered 2001 as the nation's 12th-leading scorer at 22.4 points per game. She also ranked 11th in steals (4.1 per game) and 13th in both three-point field goal percentage (44.4) and three-pointers made per game (2.9). On Saturday she shot 4-of-9 from behind the three-point arc and added 4 assists and a pair of steals.

Sophomore forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) was next in the scoring column with 8 points to go with her game-high 8 rebounds. Eight other Foresters registered between 2 and 7 points each as Head Coach Jackie Slaats was able to give extra playing time to some of the reserves and rest the starters late in the lopsided game.

Defensively, senior guard Karla Gribble (Mineral Point, WI/Mineral Point) had five of the Foresters' 17 steals as they forced Knox into 35 turnovers. Knox shot just 35% from the field and tied their season-low with just 51 total points.

Lake Forest is now 5-3 overall on the season and 2-0 in defense of their Midwest Conference title. They have a busy week ahead of them as they travel to Illinois College on Tuesday (January 9th), host Beloit College on Friday (January 12th) and play at Ripon College on Saturday (January 13th).
