Foresters Remain Undefeated with Victory at Illinois College
All five starters score in double figures

Kandyce Green led Lake Forest  with 19 points and six assists.
JACKSONVILLE, IL - The Forester women's basketball team kept its perfect record intact Wednesday (January 8) with a 92-69 victory at Illinois College. It was Lake Forest's second Midwest Conference win of the year and ninth overall, matching the 1990-91 team for the best start in school history. IC fell to 3-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.

All five Forester starters scored in double figures, led by Kandyce Green's (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) 19. The sophomore guard shot 10-of-11 from the free throw line and added two steals and a game-high six assists.

Fellow sophomores Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) and Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) each scored 14 points and combined to shoot 11-of-14 from the field. Freeman, last season's conference leader in three-point field goal percentage, was 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Team captains Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) and Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley) had 12 and 11 points, respectively. McCants scored in double-figures for the sixth straight game and led the team with six rebounds. Wagner was 8-of-10 from the free throw line.

Lake Forest shot 52.7% (29/55) from the field while Illinois College made exactly half (27/54) of its field goal attempts. The Foresters made 28 of 33 (84.8%) free throws while IC was just 12-of-18. The visitors also held the edge in rebounding, 38 to 21.

Lake Forest actually trailed at halftime, 37-35. With the home team ahead by two again at 39-37, the Foresters caught fire and outscored the Lady Blues 28-2 in a seven-minute span to take a 65-41 lead. Illinois College cut the margin to 18 points on two separate occasions but would get no closer. The 57 second-half points are a new Lake Forest College school record.

The Foresters' next game will be Saturday (January 11) afternoon at Monmouth College (3-5, 1-0 MWC). Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m. Lake Forest will play at Carroll College and at Lawrence University the following Friday and Saturday (January 17-18).
