MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team, ranked 20th in the nation by D3hoops.com and 21st in the latest USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coach Poll, won 81-51 at Monmouth College Tuesday night (January 8). The Foresters are now 9-1 overall on the season and perfect in three Midwest Conference games. The Fighting Scots fell to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.

Senior guard Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) led the visitors with 15 points and three steals and shot 4-for-4 from three-point range in the contest. Fellow senior guard Eileen Walsh (Hickory Hills, Ill./Amos Alonzo Stagg) was next on the team with 11 points and made two of three attempts from beyond the arc. Junior forward Ashley Cretacci (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) also reached double figures with 10 points and was one of five players on the team with three assists. The Foresters shot 50.8 percent from the field and made nine of 17 three-pointers and 10 of 16 free throws. Monmouth was 35.2 percent from the field, 1-for-9 from three-point range, and 12-for-23 from the line. Lake Forest was out-rebounded 41-35 but committed just 18 turnovers while forcing 27.

Monmouth scored the game’s first basket but would lead for just 18 seconds in the contest. The Foresters scored the next six points and held only a slight lead until outscoring the Scots 21-6 over the final seven-and-a-half minutes of the opening period. Lake Forest led 40-23 at halftime.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Walsh and Lucas extended the margin to 24 points early in the second half and the difference remained between 22 and 30 points the rest of the game.

Lake Forest will travel to Grinnell College Saturday (January 12) for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off. The Foresters will continue playing MWC road games the following weekend (January 18-19), visiting Ripon College on Friday and St. Norbert College on Saturday.
