JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Forester women’s basketball team won 79-50 at Illinois College Tuesday (January 9) evening. Lake Forest raised their overall record on the season to 8-2 and their Midwest Conference mark to 3-1. The Lady Blues fell to 3-9 overall and 1-4 in league play.

Reserve center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led the Foresters with a career-high 13 points and was the only player on the team to score in double figures. Freshman guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) was next on the squad with 9 points and both sophomore center Kathleen Dewan (Oak Forest, Ill./Oak Forest) and freshman forward Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) had eight. Fourteen different Lake Forest players scored in the contest. Schmidt led the visitors with eight rebounds.

The Foresters shot 47.6 percent from the floor but just 2-for-11 from three-point range and 17-for-27 (63.0%) from the free throw line. Illinois College was held to just 34.5 percent from the field and shot 3-for-14 from beyond the arc and 9-for-22 from the foul line. Lake Forest out-rebounded the home team 45-33 and committed 27 turnovers while forcing 31 Lady Blue miscues.

The game was scoreless for nearly four minutes and the Foresters did not score until more than six minutes had passed. After falling behind 6-0, Lake Forest outscored Illinois College 19-2 over the next four-and-a-half minutes to take an 11-point lead. The Lady Blues trimmed the advantage to six points before the Foresters scored nine straight points and went into the locker room at halftime with a 34-20 advantage.

Illinois College would get no closer in the second half and Lake Forest extended their lead to at least 30 points six times in the period.

The Foresters will host a pair of league games this weekend (January 12-13). The team will face Ripon College at 5:30 Friday evening and St. Norbert College at 2:00 the following afternoon.
