Former Forester replaces Charle Fern on the staff

Kim Magee
LAKE FOREST, IL - Lake Forest College Athletic Director and head women’s basketball coach Jackie Slaats announced Friday (July 14) that Kim Magee ’01 has accepted a position as part-time Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. She replaces Charle Fern ’94, who as an assistant coach for nine seasons helped lead the program to a 165-53 overall record and three conference titles.

“As sad as I am to see Charle leave, I’m very pleased to have Kim return to our program,” Slaats begins. “It’s great to have another alumna join our coaching staff given the emphasis we have on tradition and Kim was a major contributor to one of the most successful four-year spans in the program’s history. The team and I both look forward to the contributions she will make to our future seasons.”

The Lake Forest women’s basketball team won exactly 20 games in each of Magee’s four years on the squad, posting an 80-16 overall record and a 56-5 mark in Midwest Conference play. The Foresters captured the league title in each of her last two seasons and she was a team captain and winner of the Nicholas J. Wasylik Award as a senior. The Wasylik Award is given annually to the College’s senior student-athlete whose actions in and out of competition best emulate the positive and outgoing attitude Wasylik displayed during his years at Lake Forest as a coach, instructor, and administrator. In addition, Magee was the softball team’s Most Valuable Player as a senior and the Most Improved Player in both sports as a freshman.

Magee is currently a counselor at James B. Conant High School in Rolling Meadows. After graduating from the College in 2001, the Lake Oswego, Oregon, native remained in the area. She attended graduate school at the University of DePaul, where she earned her master’s degree in guidance counseling in 2005.

“I am very excited to be back at Lake Forest College,” begins Magee. “I was fortunate to be part of this program as a student and I hope to help continue its tradition of success as a coach.”

The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team posted a 14-9 record in 2005-2006 and has qualified for eight of the last nine Midwest Conference Championship Tournaments, winning titles in 2000, 2001, and 2002.
