Baich and Lucas Named First Team All-Conference, Schmidt Second Team
Lake Forest is one of four teams in the league with three honorees

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Midwest Conference released the 2007-08 All-MWC basketball teams on Tuesday (March 4) and three Lake Forest College players made the list. Nicole Baich (Westchester, Ill./Nazareth Academy) and Beth Lucas (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey) were First Team selections and Claire Schmidt (Kankakee, Ill./Bishop McNamara) was named to the Second Team.

Baich was second on the team in scoring average at 10.1 points per game and led the squad with 6.6 rebounds per contest. She was also third with 41 assists and 40 steals. The senior center ranked second in the conference in field goal percentage, 10th in rebounding, and 23rd in scoring during league play. She finished her career ranked ninth in team history with 875 points, fifth with 594 rebounds, and fourth with 53 blocked shots. Baich was also a First Team selection in 2007.

Lucas led Lake Forest with 58 assists and 63 steals on the season and was fourth in scoring (8.5 ppg.) and rebounding (3.8 rpg.). In MWC play the senior guard ranked first in steals per game, fourth in three-point field goal percentage, 15th in assists per game, and 28th in scoring.

Claire Schmidt

Schmidt was promoted to the starting lineup midway through the season and ranked third on the team in scoring and rebounding and fifth in assists. The sophomore forward actually led the squad in scoring during league play and ranked 20th in the conference in that category, seventh in field goal percentage, and tied-for-10th in blocked shots.

The Foresters finished the season 21-4 overall and 14-2 in league play. The team defeated Carroll College in overtime in the MWC Championship Tournament semifinals before falling to host St. Norbert College in the title game.
