Lake Forest's Alison Grubbs Named 2001 Jostens Trophy Recipient
Trophy awarded to nation's top student-athlete

Alison Grubbs with her 2001 Josten's Trophy.
SALEM, VA - Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point) of Lake Forest College has been named the 2001 recipient of  the Jostens Trophy, recognizing the outstanding student-athletes in Division III women's basketball. Grubbs will receive her award on March 15 at a luncheon sponsored by the Rotary Club of Salem, Virginia.

A senior, Grubbs was named a preseason All-American (D3hoops.com) and is the leading scorer in the Midwest Conference and one of the top 20 scorers in the nation. Alison has averaged 21.0 points per game this season as well as shooting 45.3% from the field, 39.7% from behind the arc, and 85.0% from the charity stripe. She has also recorded 113 rebounds, 88 assists and 75 steals from her guard position. Grubbs was honored as the National Player of the Month in January by Division III News and, in addition, was recently named to the 2000 Division III All-American Farm Team. She has been a four-time All-American and a four-time Midwest Conference First Team selection, as well as being honored as MWC Player of the Year three times (1998, 2000, and 2001).

Her presence in the classroom is equally as impressive. With a double major in Biology and Secondary Education, she has maintained a 3.7 grade point average. She is a Deerpath Scholar, a member of the Tri-Beta National Biology Honor Society, a member of the Kappa Delta Pi International Education Honor Society, and a member of the Dean's List. Alison has been named to the Midwest Conference Academic All-Conference team three times and honored as a 2000 and 2001 Academic All-District First Team selection.

In terms of community, Alison is both involved and concerned at a variety of levels. On campus, she has been involved with the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and with Athletic Council. She has served as the chair of several committees within each organization and her contributions to her community through her efforts in both have been extraordinary. Off campus, Alison has been an active volunteer for the Soup Kitchen, a major volunteer service commitment for Lake Forest students, and for Misericordia, a major volunteer service commitment for Lake Forest student-athletes. In addition, Alison has assisted a variety of local organizations (Girl Scouts, St. Mary's grade school, Linking Efforts Against Drugs, and Lake Forest High School) by volunteering her time to their annual sport-related events.

The Jostens Trophy is a joint creation of Jostens, Inc., of Minneapolis, Minn., and the Rotary Club of Salem, Va. The purpose of the award is to honor the true Division III student-athlete - the athlete that shows excellence in the classroom, on the playing floor, and in the community. In addition to the Trophy, the Wooldridge Scholarship, a $1,000 donation, will be presented in the name of the winner to her institution. The scholarship was named after Dan Wooldridge, a Salem Rotarian and retired Commissioner of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, as a way of honoring him for his long-time dedication to Division III athletics.

The winner of the 2001 Jostens Trophy was chosen by a national selection committee consisting of college coaches, former athletes, college administrators, and selected members of the media. The national committee voted on players based on three criteria: Basketball ability, academic prowess, and community service.
