Shannon Clerkin Named Preseason Honorable Mention All-American

Shannon Clerkin is starting to draw national attention.
LAKE FOREST, IL - Women's DIII News has selected Lake Forest College women's basketball player Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) as a Preseason Honorable Mention All-American. The newsletter names three players from each region as Top Selections and 36 honorable mentions. Clerkin is the only Midwest Conference player listed. Lake Forest is also listed 23rd on the publication's Top 25.

Clerkin was the Foresters' leading scorer last season with 12.7 points per game. She also led the team with 26 blocks, and a .562 field goal percentage.  Clerkin was second in rebounding with 7.1 per game and fourth on the squad with 25 steals. She also ranked among the Midwest Conference's leaders in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, blocked shots, and free-throw percentage

The Foresters have posted a 41-10 record in her two seasons and advanced to the conference championship game both years. Clerkin helped Lake Forest to a school record 22 victories (against just three losses) in the 2002-03. She was selected Midwest Conference Player of the Week twice during the year and was named First Team All-Conference, Academic All-Conference, and the Foresters' Most Valuable Player following the season.

Clerkin was named a team captain for the 2003-04 season along with senior Sherry Wagner (Chicago, IL/Mother McAuley).
