FORESTERS CLAIM TIP-TOURNEY TITLE
     With junior Alison Grubbs (Cullom, IL/Tri-Point H.S.) and senior Melissa Schneider (Arlington Heights, IL/John Hersey H.S.) claiming All-Tournament Team honors, the Lake Forest women's basketball team won the Forester Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday. The Foresters defeated Aurora, 85-68, in the first round and Judson, 77-66, in the championship game. 
     During the two-game tournament, Grubbs totaled 29 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists, and 4 steals. After a sub-par shooting performance in the first game, Grubbs bounced back with 19 points on 7 of 12 shooting in the second game. She also added 6 assists (with just 1 turnover) and 3 rebounds. Schneider led the team in scoring on Friday with 16 points. She chipped in 8 points on Saturday. Joining Grubbs and Schneider on the All-Tournament Team was Meghan McCarty and Sheryl Jedd from Judson, and Stephanie Johnson from Milwaukee School of Engineering, who claimed the consolation title with a 72-63 win over Aurora on Saturday.
     Lake Forest raced out to a 44-30 halftime lead on Friday versus Aurora and then coasted to the 85-68 final. Sophomore Katie Kerrigan (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville H.S.) joined Schneider (16 points) and Grubbs (10) in double digits for scoring with 12 points of her own. Freshman Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha H.S.) contributed 7 points and a team-high 10 rebounds in her first collegiate game. The Foresters forced 25 turnovers and had 14 steals. 
     The Foresters got off to a fast start again on Saturday, jumping out to a 41-28 lead at the half-way mark against Judson, before holding on for a 77-66 win. Grubbs led the way with 19 points, including 2 of 4 shooting from the three-point line and 3 of 3 from the foul line. McCants added 13 points and three other Foresters had 8 points on a night when 11 players logged at least 9 minutes. As a team, Lake Forest shot 46.7% for the game, including 54.5% in the first half, and had a 1:1 assist to turnover ratio (18:18).
