Foresters Defeat Macalester and Aurora to Win Tip-Off Tourney
McCants and Clerkin named to All-Tournament Team
  

Katie McCants (#42) and Shannon Clerkin (#52) were both named to the 2002 All-Tournament Team.
LAKE FOREST, IL - With a 75-40 win over Macalester College on Friday (November 22) and a 76-47 triumph over Aurora University on Saturday (November 23), the Lake Forest College women's basketball team claimed the Forester Tip-Off Tournament Championship. It marked the team's ninth title in the event's 11 years.

In Friday's game against Macalester, Forester head coach Jackie Slaats used 19 different players. The team shot 46.9% from the floor, out-rebounded the Scots 42-26, and had 20 steals in the game.

Senior forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) led the squad with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the floor. She also made each of her three free throw attempts.

Sophomore forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) and freshman forward Stephanie Grubisic (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) each pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Freshman Melissa Wegner (Chicago, IL/Lane Tech) led the team with three assists. Sophomore forward Beth Brinn (West Chicago, IL/West Chicago) scored eight points and had a pair of blocked shots.

In Friday's other semifinal, Aurora University defeated Trinity International University 58-48 to advance to Saturday's Championship Game. Trinity beat Macalester in Saturday's Consolation Game, 79-54.

In the title game, Clerkin led the team with 15 points and seven rebounds. She shot 6-of-8 from the floor, made her second three-pointer of the season in three attempts (she was 0-for-1 last year), converted both of her free throw attempts, and added two blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) added a dozen points for Lake Forest on 5-of-7 field goal shooting. She also dished out five assists and added three steals. Sophomore guard Tiffany Delahanty (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) and junior forward Tangara Cross (Garland, TX/Naaman Forest) each scored seven points. Delahanty added three steals and Cross was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 1-for-1 from the line. Brinn scored six and blocked two more shots.

Five players were named to the All-Tournament Team. McCants and Clerkin were chosen from Lake Forest. Also selected were Aurora's Michelle Lexow and Tina Brooks and Trinity's Amber Goodhand.

Lake Forest will be in action again Tuesday (November 26) at the University of Chicago. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m. The Foresters will begin Midwest Conference play on Saturday, December 7 at home against Grinnell College.
