UW-Oshkosh Edges Lake Forest in Holiday Classic Championship Game
Foresters beat North Park in semifinals, Clerkin and Green named to All-Tourney Team

OSHKOSH, WI - After defeating North Park University 78-58 in Friday's (November 23rd) semifinals of the UW-Oshkosh Holiday Classic Tournament, the Forester women's basketball team was dealt its first loss of the season by host UW-Oshkosh in the Championship Game on Saturday (November 24th). The final score was 71-68, dropping Lake Forest's record to 4-1.

In Friday's (November 23rd) win over North Park, freshman guard Kandyce Green (Chicago Heights, IL/Marian Catholic) had a breakout game with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals. Green shot 7-for-10 from the field, including 1-for-2 from behind the three-point arc.

Also scoring in double-figures for the Foresters were freshman forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) with 12 points, sophomore forward Tangara Cross (Garland, TX/Naaman Forest) with 11, and senior guard Jenni Klusman (New Berlin, WI/New Berlin West) with 10.

Junior forward Katie McCants (Menasha, WI/Menasha) had seven points and a team-high nine rebounds and sophomore guard Tiffany Rudak (Tinley Park, IL/Victor J. Andrew) had nine points, six assists and 4 steals in the victory.

After leading by just three points at the half (33-30), Lake Forest began the second half with a 22-8 run to put the game out of reach. The lead was no less than 13 points the rest of the way.

In Saturday's (November 24th) Championship Game against UW-Oshkosh, Green led all scorers with 17 points for the second straight night. Green shot 4-for-6 from the field and made all nine free throws she attempted. Clerkin shot 3-for-3 from the field and 9-for-10 from the line to account for her 15 points and McCants added 12 points and a team-high 7 rebounds.

Oshkosh held a 31-28 halftime advantage and led by 16 points (69-53) with 4:46 to go in the game. Lake Forest scored 15 straight points over the next four-and-a-half minutes to cut the lead to a single point. Kristin Steckmesser of Oshkosh made two free throws with 16 seconds left to preserve the victory.

Green and Clerkin were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances over the weekend. The two freshmen combined for 61 points and 20 rebounds in the two games.

The Foresters will play their first Midwest Conference game of the year next Saturday (December 1st) when they host Illinois College at 3:00 pm.
