Forester junior center Lisa Nassin (Evergreen Park, Ill./Evergreen Park) led the Foresters with a dozen points. She was followed by a pair of reserve guards, sophomore Kelsey James (Oak Forest, Ill./Marist) with 11 points and junior Kate Grunauer (Chicago, Ill./Marist) with 10. They combined to shoot 6-for-11 from the field, 5-for-8 from three-point range, and 3-for-6 from the foul line. They also had five assists and three steals between them. Junior guard Tracy Rainey (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park) scored eight points and led the squad with eight rebounds and four steals.
Lake Forest shot 41.9 percent from the field, 5-for-14 from beyond the arc, and 16-for-26 from the free throw line. M.S.O.E. made just 31.5 percent of its field goal attempts, including three of seven from three-point range, and 16 of 23 free throws. The Foresters were out-rebounded 41-33 but forced 24 of the game's 44 turnovers.
The teams combined for just nine points in game's first eight-and-a-half minutes. The Raiders led for most of the first half and by as many as five points. The Foresters scored the final four points of the period and led 24-23 at halftime.
After the visitors tied the score at 26 early in the second half, Lake Forest regained the lead for good on a free throw by Nassin and moments later used a 9-0 run to extend the advantage to 10 points (40-30) with 12:27 to play. M.S.O.E. outscored the Foresters 12-4 over the next six minutes to cut the lead to two and the difference was just a pair of points (51-49) again with three minutes remaining. The Raiders would get no closer, however, and the home team escaped with a four-point victory.
Lake Forest will travel to UW-Oshkosh on Saturday for a non-conference game at 1:00 p.m.
