ST. LOUIS, MO - The Lake Forest College women's basketball team split a pair of games at Washington University's McWilliams Classic over the weekend (November 29-30). The Foresters were defeated 67-59 by Johns Hopkins University in Saturday's semifinals before knocking off Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 68-55 in Sunday's consolation game. Lake Forest is now 3-2 on the season.

Junior forward Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) led all scorers with a career-high 31 points against Johns Hopkins. She also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. Clerkin shot 11-of-20 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Junior guard Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) was next on the team with nine points and led the squad with five assists and three steals.

The Foresters shot 36.4% from the floor and held Johns Hopkins to 34.9% but were out-rebounded 46-35.

Clerkin scored Lake Forest's first 12 points and the Foresters led 12-10 before an 8-0 Blue Jays run. Lake Forest trailed 26-18 with 1:44 remaining in the first half but scored the final eight points of the period to tie the score. Johns Hopkins took the lead for good with 17:15 left in the contest and increased the margin to eight points with 3:20 to play. Freeman's three-pointer with 1:49 left cut the lead to two (59-57) but the Foresters would get no closer.

Lake Forest set a school record with 11 made three-pointers on Sunday. Freeman connected five times from beyond the arc and led the team with 15 points. Junior guard Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic) was 3-for-5 from long-range and had 11 points. Clerkin recorded her second double-double of the weekend with 11 points and 10 rebounds and was later named to the all-tournament team.

The Foresters scored the game's first 11 points and led by as many as 16 (17-1) in the first half. Rose-Hulman battled back and pulled to within eight points twice in the period, which ended with Lake Forest holding a 37-27 lead. A 17-7 Forester run to open the second half increased the lead to 20 points (54-34) and the Fightin' Engineers trailed by less than 13 just once the rest of the way.

The triumph was the 300th in the career of Lake Forest head coach Jackie Slaats. She currently owns a 300-101 record in her 17-plus years at the helm of the Forester women's basketball program.

Lake Forest will open Midwest Conference play at home on Wednesday (December 3) against Knox College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
