Freeman and Foresters Set School Records in Victory at Chicago
Senior shoots 7-for-7 from three-point range, team knocks down 10 of 14

Freeman is shooting 58.3% this year from three-point range.
CHICAGO, IL - The Lake Forest College women’s basketball team’s offense caught fire and the Foresters claimed a 97-86 victory at the University of Chicago Tuesday (November 30) night. The team evened its record at 2-2 and dropped the Maroons’ mark to 2-3.

Senior Kristy Freeman (Palatine, IL/Palatine) led Lake Forest with a career-high 26 points. She made all nine of her shots from the floor, tied a team record with seven three-pointers, and bettered the 5-for-5 performance that previously stood as the single-game school record for three-point percentage.

Three other seniors – Kandyce Green (Chicago, IL/Marian Catholic), Shannon Clerkin (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld), and Alissa Mildebrath (Carol Stream, IL/West Chicago) – also reached double figures in scoring. Green poured in a season-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and added a team-high seven rebounds. Clerkin was 7-for-9 from the floor and had 16 points and four assists. Mildebrath shot 4-for-5 from the field, scored 11 points, blocked a shot, and added a pair of steals. Kristen Fink (Menasha, WI/St. Mary's Central), another senior, dished out three assists and led the squad with two blocked shots and three steals in 15 minutes of playing time.

The Foresters shot 60.7% (34 of 56) from the floor to tie one school record and set another by connecting on 71.4% (10 of 14) of their three-point field goal attempts. The 10 three-pointers match the second-highest single-game total in team history. The visitors were out-rebounded 42-34 and committed 22 turnovers, compared to Chicago’s 19, but held the Maroons to 38.0% field goal shooting.

Lake Forest connected on its first eight field goal attempts in the game, including four three-pointers, and led 27-5 after just eight minutes of play. Freeman’s sixth three-pointer of the first half gave the visitors a 25-point lead (40-15), their largest of the contest, with 6:51 remaining before halftime. Chicago then scored seven straight points and eventually cut the lead to 16 points (50-34) at intermission.

The Foresters led by as many as 18 points twice in the second half before a 16-4 run by the Maroons cut the difference to just six (73-67) with nine minutes left. The lead grew to 10 and fell back to five twice over the next six minutes. A Chicago layup with 58 seconds remaining made the score 91-85 before Lake Forest scored six straight points, including five by Green, to seal the victory.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play Saturday (December 4) afternoon at 2:00 at Monmouth College. The Foresters will then play their final game of the fall semester, a non-conference contest next Tuesday (December 7) at Wheaton College.
