EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team was defeated in a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association road games over the weekend (December 7-8). The Foresters were defeated 3-2 in overtime at UW-River Falls Friday night and 4-2 Saturday evening at UW-Eau Claire. Lake Forest fell to 4-4-1 overall and 3-3-1 in league play.

River Falls scored the first goal of Friday night’s game while on the power play with just two seconds remaining in the opening period. After a scoreless second period, the Falcons increased their lead with a goal at 6:19 in the third.

The Foresters cut the deficit in half on a five-on-three power play goal by senior Kerry Gotowka (West Simsbury, Conn./Westminster School). Classmate Allison Rushing (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Admirals) earned the assist on Gotowka’s fourth goal of the year – all on the power play. The visitors then tied the score on a shorthanded goal by senior Jen Clouthier (Aurora, Ill./Chicago Mission) with 6:40 remaining in regulation. Clouthier’s third goal of the season was assisted by classmate Laura Wilson (Corunna, Ont./Sarnia Sting).

River Falls scored the game-winner while on the power play just 73 seconds into overtime.

Forester sophomore goaltender Ryann McCarthy (Lombard, Ill./Team Illinois) stopped 30 of 33 shots on goal on Friday and 29 of 32 on Saturday.

The Foresters took the early lead at Eau Claire on sophomore Naomi Paterson’s (Ingersoll, Ont./London Devilettes) first career goal. The goal, scored at the 4:21 mark of the opening period was assisted by sophomore Maggie Bresser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Waupun H.S.). Eau Claire tied the game on a power play goal with 47 seconds remaining in the period.

The Blugolds went ahead on another power play goal at the 3:48 mark of the second period and scored again just eight seconds later. Senior Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, Ont./Bluewater Sr. Hawks) pulled the Foresters to within a goal with her fourth of the year at 5:48. She was assisted by Clouthier.

Neither team was able to score again until, with just 1:02 remaining in the contest, Eau Claire netted an insurance goal with the Forester goalie on the bench.

Lake Forest will be in action again in four weeks (January 4-5) against St. Mary’s University. The teams will face off Saturday night at 7:00 and at 2:00 the following afternoon.
