RIVER FALLS, WI - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team traveled to UW-River Falls for a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association games over the weekend (February 10-11). The Foresters and Falcons skated to a 2-2 tie Friday night and the home team won 4-3 the next afternoon. Lake Forest fell to 11-6-4 overall and 4-3-4 in the league. River Falls is now 13-8-2 overall and 8-4-1 in NCHA play.

The Falcons netted Friday’s first period’s only goal, the teams played a scoreless second, and the home team pulled ahead by two early in the third. The Foresters, however, cut the lead in half when junior Katie Snowden (Toronto, ON/Willowdale Redwings) scored off an assist from senior Darby McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) at 9:32. Less than two minutes later (11:26) sophomore Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) tied the game on her 13th goal of the year. She was assisted by sophomore Amalia Vriend (King City, ON/Markham Stouffville Stars).

Junior goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) recorded 39 saves for the visitors on Friday and added 31 more on Saturday. She posted a .921 save percentage on the weekend, matching her season’s mark.

The Foresters scored first on Saturday on senior Lil Caligiuri’s (Wheaton, IL/Culver Academy) power play goal at the 11:34 mark of the opening period. Wilson and sophomore Allison Rushing (Seattle, WA/Seattle Admirals) assisted on Caligiuri’s fifth score of the season. River Falls tied the game on a power play goal of its own with 3:01 to play in the period.

Lake Forest regained the advantage at 1:41 in the second on freshman Jenn Hill’s (Cheektowaga, NY/Nichols School) second goal of the year. Wilson and senior Erin McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) were each credited with an assist. The period ended with the teams again tied after the Falcons’ goal at 13:22.

The home team pulled away with scores at 13:52 and 16:28 in the third. Though it would not be enough for the Foresters, Snowden pulled the team to within one with her third goal of the season at 18:54. Erin McGrath and senior Andrea Richmond (Enfield, NH/Northfield Mount Hermon School) assisted on the game’s final tally.

Lake Forest will host UW-Stevens Point next weekend (February 17-18).
