STEVENS POINT, WI - The Lake Forest women’s hockey team came away with a loss and a tie in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play over the weekend (February 12-13). On Friday the Foresters fell 3-1 at UW-Eau Claire. On Saturday Lake Forest and UW-Stevens Point, who entered the week as the nation’s fourth-ranked team, skated to a scoreless tie. The Foresters’ record dropped to 8-8-5 overall and 1-4-3 in NCHA play. Eau Claire is now 12-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 in the NCHA while Stevens Point remains atop the league standings with an overall record of 19-2-1 and a 9-0-1 mark in the conference.

Freshman Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) scored the first goal in Friday night’s game on a power play at 8:54 in the first period. She was assisted by freshman Kerry Gotowka (West Simsbury, CT/Westminster School).

Eau Claire tied the score at 18:18 in the first period and scored again with just 15 second left in the period to take the lead. The home team maintained their lead through a scoreless second period and lit the lamp again at the 11:12 mark of the third.

Sophomore goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) stopped 30 of 33 shots on goal on Friday.

On Saturday Bevis recorded her third shutout of the season in a 0-0 tie at Stevens Point. She had 38 saves in 65 minutes of play. The shutout is the first blemish on the Pointers’ undefeated record in NCHA play. Not only was it the first shutout of Stevens Point this season, but also the first time the Pointers did not score at least two goals.

Lake Forest will close out the regular season at home next weekend (February 18-19). The Foresters will host UW-Superior, the ninth-ranked team in the country, at 7:00 Friday night and UW-River Falls at 2:00 the following afternoon. Lake Forest and UW-Eau Claire are currently tied for fourth place in the NCHA standings and for the final spot in the conference tournament. Eau Claire, who holds the tiebreaker over the Foresters, will host sixth-place Finlandia University twice next weekend.
