LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women’s hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with UW-Superior, the nation’s ninth-ranked team, Friday (February 18) night. The squad also fell 6-2 to UW-River Falls on Saturday (February 19). Both Northern Collegiate Hockey Association games were played at home. Lake Forest finished the 2004-05 season with an 8-9-6 overall record and a 1-5-4 mark in NCHA play.

After two scoreless periods Friday night, Forester freshman Amalia Vriend (King City, ON/Markham Stouffville Stars) scored at the 9:46 mark of the third to give the home team the lead. Sophomore Katie Snowden (Toronto, ON/Willowdale Redwings) assisted on Vriend’s second goal of the season.

Lake Forest sophomore goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) entered the game as the reigning NCHA Player of the Week and held the Yellowjackets scoreless until the 16:54 mark of the third period, when the visitors converted on a power play opportunity. Bevis matched her career high with 48 saves in the contest, including 16 in the third period and five more in overtime.

River Falls scored the opening period’s only goal at the 9:51 mark on Saturday.

The Foresters tied the game at the 3:33 mark of the second stanza on Snowden’s sixth goal of the year. Freshman Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) earned the assist and lit the lamp herself at 10:47 to give Lake Forest a 2-1 lead. Snowden and freshman Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) assisted on Wilson’s team-high ninth goal of the season. Unfortunately for the home team, the Falcons scored at 17:19 and regained the lead at the 19-minute mark of the period.

River Falls rattled off goals at 5:25, 9:30, and 15:23 in the third to put the game away.

The 2004-05 Foresters had 15 players score goals and 20 record at least one point this year. Both marks are program bests. The squad also set a school record by allowing just 2.22 goals per game and Bevis posted the best goals against average (2.31) and save percentage (.927) in the team’s five-year history.

Lake Forest will lose three seniors – Lindsey Wild (Inver Grove Heights, MN/Rosemount), Nichole Greco (Franklin Park, IL/Chicago Young Americans), and Michelle Pickles (Crown Point, IN/Chicago Young Americans) – to graduation in May.
