Lindsey Wild (above) and Robyn Slater combined for 8 points on Saturday and 11 in the weekend series.
EAU CLAIRE, WI - After losing 5-3 at UW-Eau Claire Friday (February 1st) night, the Forester women's hockey team kept its playoff hopes alive with a come-from-behind 6-5 overtime victory over the Blugolds on Saturday (February 6th). The win pulls Lake Forest back to within two points of Eau Claire for the fourth and final spot in the season-ending Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament.

On Friday, the Foresters got on the scoreboard first at the 2:09 mark of the opening period. Freshman forward Nichole Greco (Franklin Park, IL) scored her third goal of the season, with freshman defender Sarah Shepherd (Newburgh, Ontario) recording an assist, her first career point.

After four unanswered goals by Eau Claire, Lake Forest scored twice more in the game. The first was junior forward Robyn Slater's (Granite City, IL) team-high 17th of the year and the second came off the stick of freshman forward Michelle Pickles (Crown Point, IN), her fourth of the season. Fellow freshman forward Lindsey Wild (Inver Grove Heights, MN) recorded her 13th assist of the year, pulling her to within one of Slater's school record of 14. Eau Claire also scored one more goal and won 5-3.

Despite the fifth goal of the season by Pickles (assisted by Wild) with just 15 seconds left in the first period on Saturday, the Foresters entered the locker room trailing by one.

The Blugolds scored two more goals in the first five minutes of the second period to take a seemingly commanding 4-1 advantage. Wild, Slater, and the rest of the Foresters, though, would not give up. Both individuals scored unassisted goals in the second before Eau Claire closed out the period with its fifth score of the game to take a 5-3 lead.

Slater scored her second goal of the game at the 6:31 mark of the third, with Shepherd earning her second point of the weekend as well as her career and Wild breaking the school record with her 15th helper of the year. With just over a minute to play in regulation and their goalie pulled, the Foresters tied the game on Slater's third goal of the contest, fourth of the weekend, and 20th of the season.

With 1:14 to play in overtime, Wild scored the game-winner, her second goal of the game and fifth of the season off a pass from Slater. The pair combined for 8 points in the game and 11 on the weekend.

Lake Forest will host UW-River Falls next weekend in its final series of the NCHA season. Friday (February 8th) night's game will be at 7:30 and the teams will play again at 2:00 Saturday (February 9th) afternoon. The Foresters will play St. Mary's University (MN) at home the following Tuesday and Wednesday (February 12-13th) to close out the regular season.
