LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Forester women’s hockey team split a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association home games over the weekend (February 1-2). Lake Forest defeated Finlandia University 4-2 Friday night before falling 7-1 to UW-Superior, the nation’s 10th-ranked team, on Saturday. Lake Forest is now 8-7-4 overall on the season and 4-5-3 in NCHA play. Friday’s victory helped clinch the Foresters’ spot in the six-team NCHA O’Brien Cup Tournament February 29-March 2.

Forester senior Kerry Gotowka (West Simsbury, Conn./Westminster School) scored the weekend’s first goal at the 8:57 mark of the Friday’s second period. Classmate Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, Ont./Bluewater Sr. Hawks) and sophomore Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) assisted on the goal, Gotowka’s eight overall and seventh power play score of the season. She is now tied for third in the nation in power play goals. Senior Laura Wilson (Corunna, Ont./Sarnia Sting) extended the Foresters’ lead to two goals with her eighth of the season at 13:11. After Finlandia pulled to within one on a penalty shot at 16:04, the home team regained its two-goal advantage on a power play score by DeHoey at 17:13. Senior Jen Clouthier (Aurora, Ill./Chicago Mission) assisted on DeHoey’s team-high ninth goal of the season and 49th of her career, one shy of the program’s record.

Bean scored her second goal of the year at the 15:58 mark of the third period. Senior Allison Rushing (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Admirals) and freshman Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) were each credited with an assist. The Lions closed out the scoring with 39 seconds remaining in the contest.

Freshman Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ont./St. Thomas Panthers) stopped 17 of 19 shots on goal to earn the victory and raised her record on the year to 5-2-0.

Superior scored the only goal of Saturday’s opening period and added a pair of scores early in the second.

Rushing netted the Foresters’ only goal of the game at the 13:37 mark of the second period. Her first goal of the season came on the power play and was assisted by Wilson and DeHoey, whose school record 41st career assist broke a tie with Rushing.

The Yellowjackets led 4-1 after the second period and added three more scores in the third. Four of Superior’s goals in the game were scored on the power play and one was shorthanded.

Lake Forest will host a pair of games against UW-Eau Claire next weekend (February 8-9). The teams will face off at 7:00 Friday night and Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
