Foresters Blank Eau Claire in First Round of O'Brien Cup Tournament
Team will face host UW-River Falls in the semifinals tomorrow

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The Lake Forest College women's hockey team defeated UW-Eau Claire 4-0 Friday night (February 27) in the first round of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association O'Brien Cup Tournament. The Foresters raised their record on the year to 12-13-1. The Blugolds' season ends with a mark of 12-11-3.

The game was scoreless until the 9:09 mark of the second period when Lake Forest sophomore Melissa Kravich (Wilmette, Ill./Gustavus Adolphus College) lit the lamp for the eighth time this season. She was assisted by freshmen Jessica Dare (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Belle Tire) and Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School). Dare and Kravich then assisted Herring at 14:06, giving the Foresters a 2-0 lead at the second intermission.

Sophomore Sam Herron (Clinton Township, Mich./Victory Honda) extended the margin to three goals at 6:51 in the third period. Classmate Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) assisted on Herron's seventh goal of the year. Herring then netted a power play goal at 14:23 to close out the scoring. It was her team-high 14th score of the season and was assisted by juniors Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines H.S.) and Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois).

Forester sophomore goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) recorded 28 saves in the contest and the third shutout of her career. She also blanked the Blugolds 1-0 in double-overtime in the first round of last season's O'Brien Cup Tournament.

Lake Forest will face off against league champion and tournament host UW-River Falls at 3:05 p.m. in tomorrow's semifinals.
