DeHoey, Wilson, and Rushing finish weekend with two points

Courtney DeHoey leads the team with eight goals this year.
LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women’s hockey team earned three points in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association standings over the weekend (February 5-6). Lake Forest defeated Finlandia University 3-2 on Saturday and tied the Lions 2-2 on Sunday. The Foresters are now 8-7-4 overall this season and 1-3-2 in the NCHA. Finlandia’s overall record is 3-13-1 with a 0-5-1 mark in league play.

After a scoreless first period on Saturday, freshman Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) put the Foresters on the scoreboard just 79 second into the second with an unassisted shorthanded goal. It was her second of the season with Lake Forest down a player. The home team struck again at 4:32 in the second on freshman Jen Clouthier’s (Aurora, IL/Chicago Mission) second goal of the year. Sophomore Darby McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids) was credited with the assist. Finlandia finally scored its first of the game on the power play with 50 seconds remaining in the period.

DeHoey netted what turned out to be the game winning goal at the 8:53 mark of the third period. Freshmen Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) and Allison Rushing (Seattle, WA/Seattle Admirals) were each credited with an assist on DeHoey’s team-high eighth score of the season. The Lions cut the lead to one goal at 11:04 but would get no closer.

Sophomore Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) recorded 26 saves in Saturday’s victory and 36 more on Sunday. She raised her save percentage on the season to .924 and lowered her goals against average to 2.29.

The visitors took a 2-0 lead on Sunday with a goal in each of the first two periods.

Wilson’s seventh goal of the year off a pass from Rushing pulled the Foresters to within one at the 5:52 mark of the third period. The game-tying goal came off the stick of sophomore Michelle Ricketts (Rochester, MI/Honeybaked) just 68 seconds later. Junior Lil Caligiuri (Wheaton, IL/Culver Academy) assisted on the third goal of the season for Ricketts.

Lake Forest will continue league play on the road next weekend (February 11-12). The Foresters will play at UW-Eau Claire Friday night at 7:00 and at UW-Stevens Point the following evening at 5:00.
