Slater Breaks Season Goals Record in 2-1 Win Over UW-Eau Claire
Team stays alive in NCHA Tournament chase

Robyn Slater broke her own school record with her 16th goal of the year on Saturday.
LAKE FOREST, IL - After giving up an early goal, the Forester women's hockey team fought back and broke a nine-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory at home over UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (January 12th) afternoon. The win keeps the team alive in the chase for the fourth and final spot in the season-ending Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament. Lake Forest still trails Eau Claire by two points for fourth place in the league standings.

Eau Claire's Jackie Peplinski scored the only goal of the first with 6:22 left to play in the period.

In the second frame, Lake Forest junior forward Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL) tied the score just 2:52 into the period. The goal, which was assisted by freshman forward Nichole Greco (Franklin Park, IL), gave Slater 16 for the year, one more than her school record-setting season of 2000-01. With the Foresters on the power play at the 8:30 mark, freshman Robyn Shea (St. John's, Newfoundland) scored what turned out to be the game winner and final goal of the contest, her fifth of the season. Assisting on the score was sophomore forward Lydia Groskin (Stowe, VT).

Sophomore goaltender Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC) stopped 27 of 28 shots on goal in the game, including nine in the final period with the Foresters ahead by just one goal. Taylor leads the NCHA with 240 saves in eight conference games this season.

Next weekend (January 18-19th), the Foresters (5-8-1, 1-7-0 NCHA) will travel to UW-Stevens Point to take on the nation's sixth-ranked team. The puck will drop at 7:30 Friday night and Saturday afternoon's contest will begin at 2:00.
