LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team played a pair of overtime games at home over the weekend (January 12-13). The Foresters dropped a 3-2 decision in a non-conference game against Bethel University Saturday afternoon before skating to a 1-1 tie with UW-Stevens Point, the nation’s second-ranked team, on Sunday. Lake Forest is now 5-5-3 overall on the season and the tie with Stevens Point gives the Foresters a 3-3-2 mark in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. Bethel raised its record to 6-5-1 and the Pointers are now 11-0-1 overall and 7-0-1 in the NCHA.

Lake Forest senior Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, Ont./Bluewater Sr. Hawks) scored the first goal of both contests. Her score on Saturday came just 16 seconds into the second period with sophomore Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) earning the assist. DeHoey and fellow senior Jen Clouthier (Aurora, Ill./Chicago Mission) then assisted classmate Laura Wilson’s (Corunna, Ont./Sarnia Sting) power play goal with just 19 seconds remaining in the second. It was Wilson’s team-leading sixth goal of the season and gave the home team a 2-0 lead.

Bethel, however, got on the scoreboard with a power play goal at the 14:43 mark of the third period and tied the score with just 16 seconds left on the clock. The Royals then scored the game-winner on a breakaway at 3:13 in overtime.

Sunday’s opening period was also scoreless and DeHoey’s goal was a power play score at the 3:28 mark of the second period. The unassisted goal was her sixth tally of the season, tying her with Wilson for the team lead and pulling her within four goals of the Foresters’ career record of 50 set by Robyn Slater ’03.

Stevens Point tied the game on a power play goal at the 14:55 mark of the second period.

Lake Forest out-shot the Pointers 30-23 and Forester sophomore Ryann McCarthy (Lombard, Ill./ Team Illinois) finished the game with 22 saves, raising her save percentage on the season to .910.

The Foresters will travel to UW-Superior for a pair of NCHA games next weekend (January 18-19). The teams will face off at 7:00 Friday night and 2:00 the following afternoon.
