LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women's hockey team fell 4-2 to visiting UW-Superior, the nation's 10th-ranked team, Friday night (January 16). The Foresters fell to 7-6-1 overall this season and 3-5-1 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Yellowjackets raised their overall record to 9-4-1 and league mark to 5-1-1.

Superior took advantage of a power play opportunity just two-and-a-half minutes into the game to take the early lead. The Foresters responded with a power play goal of their own by freshman Kim Herring (Dover, N.H./Groton School) with just 33 seconds remaining in the opening period. Herring had missed the previous five games due to injury. Her team-high eighth goal of the season was assisted by junior Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois) and freshman Jessica Dare (Whitmore Lake, Mich./Belle Tire).

The Yellowjackets scored another power play goal at the 5:47 mark of the second period and added what turned out to be the official game-winning goal at 8:11.

Lake Forest pulled back to within one with its second power play goal of the game at 7:15 in the third period. Sophomore Sam Herron (Clinton Township, Mich./Victory Honda) lit the lamp for the fifth time this season and was assisted by junior Jamie Sauer (Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines H.S.). The home team was unable to tie the score, however, and surrendered an empty net goal with 16 seconds remaining in the game.

Forester sophomore goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) stopped 29 of 32 shots on goal in the contest while Superior's goalie finished with 22 saves in 24 chances.

The same two teams will face off tomorrow afternoon at 2:00. The game will be part of Lake Forest's National Girls & Women in Sports Day.
