UW-Stevens Point Takes a Pair of Games From Lake Forest
Second-place Pointers need overtime to claim Friday's win

LAKE FOREST, IL - Visiting UW-Stevens Point swept a two-game series with Lake Forest College over the weekend to move into second place in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Women's Division. Lake Forest is in fourth place.

The Pointers, ranked 14th in the nation in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online poll, claimed a 4-1 win on Saturday (January 20th) and a 3-2 overtime victory on Friday (January 19th).

Stevens Point (10-5-1, 7-2-1 NCHA) won their fifth straight game, while Lake Forest (4-7-1, 2-7-1 NCHA) fell for the sixth consecutive game. 

On Friday, Lake Forest jumped out to leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but Stevens Point scored the final two goals of the contest, including a score just 11 seconds into overtime, to claim a 3-2 win. Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Grantie City Senior H.S.) and Kathy Eckhardt (Colorado Springs, CO/Ohio State University) tallied goals for the Foresters, while Julie Rochford, Becky Humphreys, and Nicole Busse scored for the Pointers. Slater's goal was her team-high eighth of the season.

Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC/National Sports Academy) had 42 saves in goal for LF, while Stevens Point's Diane Sawyer notched 15 saves. It was the fourth time this season that Taylor has recorded 40-or-more saves.

On Saturday, Stevens Point broke open a 1-1 tie with three unanswered goals in the third period. Busse scored the Pointers first goal and their game-winner. Aja Dailey (Ketchum, ID/New Hampton Prep School) tallied the Foresters only goal.

Sawyer registered 30 saves and Taylor had 29 saves.

Lake Forest will attempt to get back on the winning track next weekend when they travel to Hamline University for a two-game series on Friday (January 26th) and Saturday (January 27th).
