Lake Forest Falls to River Falls, Ties Eau Claire Again
Foresters and Blugolds went to overtime in all three of their games

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Forester women’s hockey team fell 2-0 at home Saturday (January 21) afternoon to UW-River Falls before skating to a 2-2 tie with UW-Eau Claire on Sunday (January 22). Lake Forest is now 11-5-3 overall this season and 4-2-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. River Falls raised its record to 10-6-1 overall and 5-3-0 in the league. Eau Claire in now 5-10-2 overall with a 0-6-2 mark in the NCHA.

River Falls scored Saturday’s first goal with just 0.3 seconds to play in the second period. The visitors added a power play score at the 5:39 mark of the third.

Sophomore goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) tallied 26 saves in both of the weekend’s games and three of the four goals she allowed came on the power play. She is now 9-4-3 on the season with a .921 save percentage and 2.27 goals against average.

Eau Claire got on the scoreboard first on Sunday with a power play goal at the 4:47 mark of the opening period. The Foresters tied the score with a power play goal of their own at the 14:50 mark. Sophomore Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) scored for the 14th time this season off assists from seniors Lil Caligiuri (Wheaton, IL/Culver Academy) and Darby McGrath (Chippawa, ON/Niagara Rapids).

After a scoreless second stanza, Eau Claire regained the lead with another power play goal at the 3:27 mark of the third. Lake Forest pulled Bevis with just over a minute remaining and scored to tie the game just 20 seconds later. Freshman Dayna Kanis (Georgetown, ON/Etobicoke Dolphins) scored the unassisted goal, her team-high 16th of the year.

Neither team was able to score in the five-minute extra period. It was the second 2-2 tie between the Foresters and Blugolds this season. Lake Forest won the other meeting 3-2 in overtime.

The Foresters will have two weekends off from competition before resuming league play with a weekend series at UW-River Falls on February 10-11.
