Foresters Sweep Adrian in Final Non-Conference Games of the Regular Season

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team defeated visiting Adrian College twice over the weekend (January 25-26). The Foresters won 3-1 Saturday afternoon and 4-0 on Sunday, raising their record on the year to 7-6-4. The Bulldogs fell to 9-7-2 in their first year as a varsity program.

Forester senior Laura Wilson (Corunna, Ont./Sarnia Sting) led off the scoring on Saturday and temporarily took over the team lead with her seventh goal of the season at 9:02 in the opening period. The power play score was assisted by sophomore Courtney Bean (Peoria, Ill./Team Illinois). Adrian responded with a goal at 17:51 and the game was tied 1-1 at both the first and second intermissions.

What turned out to be the game-winning goal was scored by senior Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, Ont./Bluewater Sr. Hawks) at the 10:44 mark of the third stanza. Freshmen Lynn Switaj (Avon Lake, Ohio/Ohio Flames) and Sam Herron (Clinton Township, Mich./Victory Honda) assisted on DeHoey’s seventh score of the year, matching Wilson’s team-leading total. Senior Kerry Gotowka (West Simsbury, Conn./Westminster School) closed out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 16:17.

Freshman goaltender Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ont./St. Thomas Panthers) stopped 22 of 23 shots on goal in the contest and is now 4-2-0 on the season with a 2.15 goals against average and .912 save percentage. Sophomore Ryann McCarthy (Lombard, Ill./Team Illinois) was between the pipes on Sunday and tallied 24 saves en route to her second career shutout. She is now 3-4-4 on the year with a goals against average of 2.12 and save percentage of .919.

Sophomore Maggie Bresser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Waupun H.S.) started the scoring on Saturday at 9:36 in the second period with her fourth goal of the season. She was assisted by Gotowka and senior Amalia Vriend (King City, Ont./Markham Stouffville Stars). DeHoey took over the team lead with her eighth goal of the year at 14:15 and was assisted by senior Allison Rushing (Seattle, Wash./Seattle Admirals).

Gotowka added her seventh goal of the year and sixth on the power play with 1:51 remaining in the contest. Assisted were credited to Switaj and Rushing. DeHoey is now just two goals shy of the program’s career record of 50 and Rushing matched DeHoey’s school record 39 career assists. Herron finished off the weekend with her second goal of the season with just 18 second remaining. Gotowka earned the assist for her first career three-point game.

The victories were the 28th and 29th in the three-year career of head coach Carisa Zaban, who now trails the program’s record for coaching victories by just one. The Foresters will host a pair of Northern Collegiate Hockey Association games this weekend (February 1-2). The team will face off against Finlandia University at 7:00 Friday night and will take on UW-Superior Saturday afternoon at 2:00.
