ELMIRA, NY - The Forester women’s hockey team traveled to New York for three games in a four-day span (January 4-7). The team fell 5-3 at Hamilton College on Wednesday and 4-0 at Utica College on Thursday before rebounding for a 3-1 triumph on Saturday at Elmira College, the sixth-ranked team in the nation. Lake Forest is now 10-3-2 on the season.

Sophomore Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks) scored the game’s first goal at Hamilton exactly seven minutes into the contest and, after the home team tied the score at 16:29, she put the Foresters back on top with another unassisted goal just 26 seconds into the second stanza. The latter score was her second shorthanded goal of the season.

The Continentals tied the score again with a shorthanded goal of their own at 8:25 in the second and took the lead with 2:10 remaining in the period.

Lake Forest tied the game at 2:31 in the third on a goal by senior Lil Caligiuri (Wheaton, IL/Culver Academy). She was assisted by sophomore Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting). Hamilton finally took the lead for good at 15:47 and added an empty net goal with 31 seconds left in the contest.

Utica scored power play goals late in Thursday’s first and second periods and added two even-strength scores in the third. Lake Forest junior goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) recorded a season-high 44 saves in the game.

Bevis stopped all but one of Elmira’s 38 shots on goal to earn the victory on Saturday. She is now 8-2-2 on the season with a .922 save percentage and 2.21 goals against average.

After a scoreless opening period, DeHoey put the Foresters ahead at the 2:01 mark of the second. Elmira tied the game at 8:08 but DeHoey lit the lamp again with the eventual game winner at 16:28. Freshman Dayna Kanis (Georgetown, ON/ Etobicoke Dolphins) and sophomore Jen Clouthier (Aurora, IL/Chicago Mission) assisted on both of DeHoey’s goals, her team-high 12th and 13th of the season.

DeHoey then raised her team leading point total to 23 by assisting on Caligiuri’s third goal of the year, an empty net score to clinch the victory with 32 seconds remaining.

The Foresters will resume Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play next weekend (January 14-15). The team will play at Finlandia University Saturday night and at UW-Superior Sunday afternoon.
