DeHoey sets single-season school record for points with a goal against UW-River Falls

Courtney DeHoey set a school record for points and tied for the team lead in goals and assists.
STEVENS POINT, WI – The Lake Forest College women’s hockey team fell 2-1 to UW-Stevens Point in the semifinals of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament on Friday (March 3) then wrapped up its season with a 4-2 loss in the tourney’s third-place game against UW-River Falls the following afternoon. The Foresters finished the season with an 11-12-4 record.

Top-seeded UW-Stevens Point jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after netting a pair of goals late in the opening period. Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, but junior Katie Snowden (Toronto, ON/Willowdale Redwings ) cut the deficit to one when she lit the lamp off an assist from sophomore Laura Wilson (Coronna, ON/Sarnia Sting) at the 6:22 mark in the third period. The Foresters were unable to score again, however, and fell 2-1 to the nation’s sixth-ranked team.

The Pointers out-shot Lake Forest 40-21, but junior goaltender Sally Bevis (Huntington, NY/North American Hockey Academy) kept the visitors in the game by recording 38 saves. The home team put 19 shots on goal in the decisive opening period and held the Foresters to one.

On Saturday against River Falls, Lake Forest found itself in an early hole after the Falcons scored three goals in the game’s opening 5:05, but the Foresters got on the scoreboard at the 16:57 mark after sophomore Courtney DeHoey (Chatham, ON/Bluewater Jr. Hawks ) slid one past the River Falls’ goaltender to make the score 3-1. DeHoey’s goal marked her 30th point of the season, one more than the previous school record set in 2001. Wilson and sophomore defender Allison Rushing (Seattle, WA/Seattle Admirals) were credited with the assist on DeHoey’s 16th score of the year, which matches the second-highest total in school history. It was the 12th assist of the year for Wilson and the 14th for Rushing, one shy of the school record.

Lake Forest added its second goal of the afternoon 52 seconds into the second period when Snowden netted an unassisted score to cut the lead to 3-2. It was Snowden’s fifth goal of the season and third in four games against River Falls. The Falcons held the Foresters scoreless for the rest of the second period and the entire third while adding a fourth goal of their own to seal the win.

DeHoey and freshman Dayna Kanis (Georgetown, ON/Etobicoke Dolphins) finished the season with the team lead in goals (16), and DeHoey and Rushing led the squad in assists with 14 apiece. Defensively, Bevis tallied 604 saves in 22 games between the pipes. Her .917 save percentage matches the third-highest average in team history and she remains the program’s all-time leader for both save percentage and goals against average in a career.
