Alyssa Wintermute Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Sophomore blanked Eau Claire in O'Brien Cup Tournament

Alyssa Wintermute
LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College women’s hockey player Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ontario/St. Thomas Panthers) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (March 5) for her performance at the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association O’Brien Cup Tournament the previous weekend (February 27-March 1).

Wintermute, a sophomore goaltender, recorded the third shutout of her career in the team’s 4-0 triumph over UW-Eau Claire in Friday’s first round. She stopped all 28 of the Blugolds’ shots on goal in the contest. Including 13 in the final period. It was the second time in as many years that Wintermute ended Eau Claire’s season with a shutout performance in the O’Brien Cup Tournament’s opening round.

The Foresters fell 6-2 to host UW-River Falls, the seventh-ranked team in the nation, in the semifinals on Saturday and were defeated 4-1 by UW-Superior in Sunday’s third-place game. Wintermute tallied 40 saves against River Falls, including the 1,000th of her career, and did not play against Superior.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays. Wintermute also earned the award just after last year’s conference tourney.
