Alyssa Wintermute Named Forester Athlete of the Week
Freshman blanked Eau Claire for more than 77 minutes in 1-0 victory

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Lake Forest College women’s hockey player Alyssa Wintermute (Belmont, Ont./St. Thomas Panthers) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday (March 6) for her performance at the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association O’Brien Cup Tournament last weekend (February 29-March 2).

Wintermute recorded 32 saves in Friday night’s 1-0 double-overtime victory over UW-Eau Claire in the tournament’s quarterfinals. Fifteen of her saves came in the second period and six occurred during more than 17 minutes of “sudden-death” play.

The freshman entered Saturday’s 3-0 semifinal loss to host and eventual O’Brien Cup champion UW-Superior after the first period and stopped 22 of 23 shots from the nation’s seventh-ranked team during the final 40 minutes of the contest.

Wintermute finished the weekend with a career-high 36-save performance in the team’s 4-0 loss to fifth-ranked UW-Stevens Point, giving her 90 saves and a .947 save percentage at the tournament.

She finished the season 8-5-0 with a 2.44 goals against average and .915 save percentage.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
