Foresters Earn a Tie in NCHA Season Opener
Slater scores both goals in 2-2 tie at UW-Steven's Point

STEVENS POINT, WI - Lake Forest College and UW-Stevens Point skated to a 2-2 tie in the Northern College Hockey Association Women's Division season opener for both teams.

Lake Forest (2-0-1, 0-0-1 NCHA) got two goals from sophomore Robyn Slater (Granite City, IL/Grantie City Senior H.S.) and 43 saves from Theresa Taylor (Spartanburg, SC/National Sports Academy) in her first appearance of the season.

UW-Steven's Point (2-0-1, 0-0-1 NCHA) out-shot the Foresters 45 to 18 during the 65-minute game.

Point's Naomi Morris scored the game's first goal (assisted by Brenda Smelser) less than a minute-and-a-half into the contest to give the Pointers an early 1-0 lead.

Slater answered with an unassisted goal less than six minutes later to tie the score at 1-1.

Late in the second period, Slater scored her second goal of the night. Her short-handed score at the 18:48 mark gave Lake Forest a one-goal lead. It was Slater's fourth goal and eighth point of the season, both tops on the team.

Steven's Point tied the score with 3:04 remaining in the game on a goal by Becky Humphreys.

All three of Lake Forest's shots and both of Point's shots in the five minute overtime period were stopped.

The same two teams will face-off again tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 in Steven's Point.
